Encore Wifi Adapter Drivers

I recently had to replace my old g router so I went with a new n router (WRT160N). Thinking it would improve the speed of my wifes computer (her's is the only one connected wireless) I bought a used Encore ENUWI-N3 adapter to replace the Encore g card that was in it. I downloaded the drivers from Encore's site and installed them, plugged in the card but the setup utility does not recognize the new adapter. In the device manager the adapter shows up under Other Devices as 802.11n WLAN with the yellow question mark.

Under properties it says 'the drivers for this device are not installed. Empires dawn of the modern world gamespy. I've tried the hardware wizard but it can't find the drivers on the computer and skips the step where it looks online and goes to the can't install screen. I'm sure I've done something wrong but don't know where to start looking. Below are the basic specs on the computer: Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.2 OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3, 32 bit Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz, x86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4 Processor Count: 2 RAM: 2551 Mb Graphics Card: Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family, 128 Mb Hard Drives: C: Total - 71332 MB, Free - 39647 MB; D: Total - 4966 MB, Free - 1024 MB; Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC., Grouper Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials, Updated: No, On-Demand Scanner: Enabled. OK, hooked it back up to the flat screen in the living room and it immediately connected. Checked her download speed to see if the n adapter had improved over the g she was using.

Her download speeds had been consistently 5-8Mbps, now it's 15-20Mbps which is real close to what I run on my computer that is hardwired to the router. I thought the key to solving the problem was the chipset and installing their drivers rather than Encore's but I couldn't find any information on this adapter. I don't know where you found out that it used the RaLink chipset but thank you, I am now back in my wife's good graces. Her computer had been down for almost a day and she was getting very ugly about it, God forbid she be off Facebook for over 2 hours, the kids might post something and she would miss it. Again thank you, you have restored the peace in our home.

Pros:-Took out a TP-LINK TL-WN822N USB adapter and replaced my Windows 7 desktop with this Encore ENUWI-G2 adapter. I didn't need the 802.11n for this computer. I plugged the ENUWI-G2 in, 1 minute later, I was back up with internet.-Free after rebate.-The adapter itself is a bit blocky and would block an adjacent USB port.
