1986 Ibanez Artist AR350T MS SE Super Edition Marine Sunburst Edge Tremolo TL;DR This rare 30.5 year old beast is in great functional, but good (not great) cosmetic condition. Everything is original, working, and present except: - the TOP LOCK string tree for the headstock - the trem back cavity cover - the V strap button on the horn was replaced at some point with a regular strap button It has scratches, a few chips, and the OHSC is covered in duct tape, but no one will care because it is a rockin, super-versatile, gorgeous guitar. ------------------------------------------ The full details, below ------------------------------------------ The Good: This is probably the best thing Ibanez has ever made.

It was crafted in September of 1986 - one of only 63 with this finish - in the Terada plant in Japan. It has the famous Super 58 humbuckers (with less wear to the plating than normal for the time period) with the tri-sound switches that give it so much versatility. [Seriously, people are shocked at how awesome the 58s sound when tapped.] Two tone, two volume knobs/pots, and the 3-way pickup selector. It's a SOLID solidbody, made up of a big heavy piece of mahogany with a flame maple top. The Marine Sunburst finish is outstanding; they never have been able to get that one right with the recent reissues. The tuners are Ibanez Smooth Tune II and live up to their name. The Ibanez Edge Tremolo is really something else and includes the arm, of course.

The TOP LOCK locking nut tightens down just fine. The top binding is all there, the neck is straight as far as I can tell, and the abalone inlay shimmers in the light. Original case does hold together, and comes with one bit of the case candy too (the brochure describing the Edge Tremolo and the Tri-sound switches operation). The headstock has the glossy rosewood veneer. The Not so good: Its first owner scratched the back a bit, lost the TOP LOCK string tree, changed the spring arrangement to four springs straight-connected (instead of three springs in a semi-triangle), lost the back cover for the tremolo, wore some of the finish off of the tremolo arm, and ditched the V strap button on the horn for a regular one.

Speaking of which, the case has some interior wear at the bottom (i.e., by where the jack plate is on the guitar) and a little separation at the case bottom (i.e., if you stood the case up, the part that would be the bottom there), which doesn't seem unstable to me, but if I were going to gig with this full time I'd use something else. It's sturdy enough for regular occasional transport, in my opinion, assuming the transporter cares about it.
