The neck is a 2003 Telecaster model year. Looks like a Fender marking to me. However, the headstock appears to be misshaped and it looks like someone may have been working on the neck that wasn't highly skilled. Did you buy this new? * If so, I would suspect that it's a fake.
* If not, someone may have butchered it when trying to do whatever they were trying to do with the neck and fretboard. Could still be a fake.

Where did you buy it? From an established Music Shop or private sale? If a Music Shop, take it back. If a private sale, kick the guys a-s-s. Hope this helps some, kcbuck. There you go, Martyn. I'm sure it's a fake now.
There is a company in China and I believe their name is something like 'Trade Tang' and they sell really cheap guitars claiming they are real Fender's, Gibson's, Gretsch's, etc. Buy 'Local', not from China. My favorite is a Gibson Les Paul Custom for around $375.00 USD. Once you buy from them, from what I have heard from fellow members here they do not answer e-mails and it is impossible to return anything for a & Learn, kcbuck 'If it sounds to good to be true, it is'. Especially, with products or companies from China.
